Questions & answers

What landowners ask before clearing.

Good projects start with clear expectations. Here are the questions we hear most — if yours isn’t here, just ask.

What exactly is forestry mulching?

It’s land clearing done with a single machine: a tracked loader fitted with a mulching head that grinds standing brush, saplings, and small trees into mulch right where they stand. No separate cutting, dragging, chipping, or hauling — the growth becomes a layer of mulch on the ground.

Do you haul the material away or leave a mess?

Neither. The growth is mulched in place and left as a natural ground cover — no burn piles, no debris pile, no hauling charges. The mulch layer also helps protect soil and slow erosion.

How much does it cost?

It depends on acreage, how dense the growth is, the terrain, and access. Most jobs are priced by the day or by the acre. We don’t post a flat rate because every property is different — but estimates are always free. Send details on the quote page and we’ll give you a real number.

How long does a project take?

Many smaller jobs are done in a day. Larger acreage, heavy growth, or difficult terrain can take longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeline with your quote, and we schedule jobs out as they come in — so the sooner you reach out, the sooner you’re on the calendar.

Will mulching get rid of my buckthorn for good?

Mulching knocks buckthorn (and honeysuckle and autumn olive) down hard and clears the area fast, but these species are aggressive and will try to resprout from the roots. For lasting control we’ll talk through a follow-up treatment and maintenance plan so it doesn’t just grow back.

Do you remove stumps?

Forestry mulching cuts growth at or near ground level, leaving a low, even surface rather than standing stumps. Full stump grinding or grubbing is a separate service — let us know if that’s what you need and we’ll advise.

What size trees can you handle?

Mulching is ideal for brush, saplings, and smaller trees. Larger-diameter trees are handled differently and may be better suited to other methods. Tell us what’s out there and we’ll let you know the best approach.

Can you work in winter or on wet ground?

Yes — in Wisconsin, winter is often an ideal time to clear. Frozen ground supports equipment well and means less rutting, and bare brush is easier to work through. Low-ground-pressure tracks keep us gentle on soft ground year-round.

What kind of access do you need?

A way to get equipment to the work area — a gate, lane, or opening wide enough for a tracked machine and trailer. Tight or unusual access isn’t a dealbreaker; just mention it when you reach out so we can plan for it.

Are you insured?

Yes — Timberhawk Land Co. is fully insured. We’re happy to provide proof of insurance before any work begins.
